Was that a plane? A passing truck? Ate too many beans the night before?
Residents around Shawville and Campbell’s Bay experienced a small earthquake on July 19 at about 11:43 a.m., according to Earthquakes Canada.
The quake originated outside Bryson at a depth of 18 km with a magnitude of 2.8 MN. It was felt lightly in Campbell’s Bay and was preceded by another small event two hours earlier.
The Pontiac has a history of seismic activity. Back in 2013, three quakes with magnitudes of over 5.1 MN, originating around Ladysmith, shook the region, breaking windows and damaging property.
According to the U.S. Geological Service, earthquakes with a
magnitude under 3.0 are only felt by a few people under especially favourable conditions.
