A fire that broke out on an island near Bristol on Saturday required the deployment of two water bombers to be restricted.

SOPFEU communications agent Cathy Elliott said that they estimated the fire started about noon on July 4, and the crews were sent out around 3:30 p.m. Two water bomber planes responded and dumped nine loads on the blaze, which ended up torching a total of two hectares.

Elliott said in an interview on Monday that SOPFEU had contained the fire and currently had seven employees on the site to ensure it didn’t flare up again.
