Two young people in their early 20s are dead and four others, including two children, were left with serious injuries after a head-on collision outside of Quyon around 7 p.m. Sunday night.

The two victims, identified on Tuesday morning as Karine Marion, 22, of Fort Coulonge and Todd (T.J.) Vibert, 23, of Campbell’s Bay, were travelling eastbound on Hwy. 148 when their . . .

car collided with a minivan in the westbound lane near the intersection at chemin Murray. Vibert was driving the vehicle.

Another female passenger in the deceased’s vehicle sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries. The minivan was carrying a woman and her two children, who also sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries.

MRC des Collines police say they have yet to determine why Vibert’s vehicle was in the opposite lane. Spokesman Sgt. Martin Fournel said that they would be reviewing data from the vehicles’ electronic recording devices to see what happened in the seconds leading up to the impact. He added that the mechanical inspection could take weeks or even longer.

The highway was closed until 3:15 a.m. Monday while police conducted their investigation.
