A two-vehicle accident occurred on Highway 148 at the intersection with Highway 303 South on Tuesday morning, sending the driver of one car to hospital.
Shawville-Clarendon fire chief Lee Laframboise said the department was called to respond to an accident at the blinking light outside Shawville at 9:38 a.m.
He said the accident occurred when an SUV pulled into the intersection from the south, just as another car traveling eastbound on Highway 148 was passing through the intersection and collided with the SUV.
“They said they stopped, but that they’d never seen [the other car] until it hit them,” he said, sharing what he had heard from the people in the SUV.
The collision sent the SUV into the ditch on the south side of Highway 148, while the car that hit it ended up in the middle of the highway, with significant damage to its front.
The driver of the eastbound car was sent to hospital in an ambulance. Laframboise did not know how serious her injuries were.
He said the driver and passenger in the SUV did not need an ambulance.

Une collision entre deux véhicules est survenue sur la route 148, à l’intersection avec la route 303 Sud, mardi matin, conduisant la conductrice de l’une des voitures à l’hôpital.
Lee Laframboise, chef du service d’incendie de Shawville-Clarendon, a déclaré que le service avait été appelé à intervenir pour un accident au feu clignotant à l’extérieur de Shawville à 9 h 38.
Il a indiqué que l’accident s’était produit lorsqu’un VUS s’est engagé dans l’intersection par le sud, juste au moment où une autre voiture se dirigeant vers l’est sur la route 148 traversait l’intersection et est entrée en collision avec le VUS.
« Ils ont dit s’être arrêtés, mais qu’ils n’avaient jamais vu [l’autre voiture] avant qu’elle ne les frappe », a-t-il rapporté, partageant ce qu’il avait entendu des occupants du VUS.
La collision a projeté le VUS dans le fossé du côté sud de la route 148, tandis que la voiture qui l’avait percuté a terminé sa course au milieu de la route, avec d’importants dommages à l’avant.
La conductrice de la voiture se dirigeant vers l’est a été transportée à l’hôpital en ambulance. Laframboise ignorait la gravité de ses blessures.
Il a ajouté que le conducteur et le passager du VUS n’avaient pas eu besoin d’ambulance.
