Around 100 seniors gathered at the town hall in Waltham for a delicious turkey . . .

feast at the local RA’s annual Golden Age Christmas Dinner.

According to one of the event’s organizers, Megan Kelly, the event has been taking place in the town every year since being first started in the 1970s.

The event was open to all residents and business owners over the age of 50 and served as an opportunity to bring local seniors together to celebrate Christmas as a community, Kelly said.

For the delicious turkey feast, a group of volunteers formed an assembly line in the kitchen, where they prepared tons of tasty-looking plates topped with all sorts of goodies including cooked veggies, mashed potatoes and gravy.

Four additional volunteers roamed the hall serving the attendees their food.

All the food was provided and cooked by members of the RA, Kelly said.

While the event doesn’t raise all that much money for the association – as plates cost only $10 per person – Kelly said it’s all about giving back to the community for their continued support.

With a large pile of gifts underneath a Christmas tree at the back of the hall, each of the attendees earned door prizes as well.

For Kelly, the event is very positive for local seniors because it’s another opportunity for them to socialize and has become an event that many look forward to every year.

“It gets them out and it gives us a chance to give back,” she said.

With the hall nearly packed to capacity for this year’s event, Kelly said she was quite satisfied with the turnout

“Our capacity is about 120 and I think we had 100,” she said.
