A new Shawville company intends to bring a high-tech solution to a traditionally low-tech problem.
Local farmer Ralph Lang and his wife Melanie Lang have partnered with WePC owner Scott Lemay and Ronde Lemay to found Bait Bin.
Prior to hunting trips, Lemay would stop by Lang’s farm to pick for corn, which he used as bait. That simple customer relationship sparked an idea.
Using Lemay’s technical expertise and Lang’s vast supply of corn, they came up with Bait Bin, a 24-hour corn dispensary for hunters and farm hobbyists. Their machines take credit, Apple Pay and Interac and dispense corn in 5-gallon increments. Buckets can be purchased or brought from home. There is no packaging involved.
Their first location opened Tuesday and is located at the Giant Tiger on Hwy 148
By automating the process, Lemay believes they are providing a service that can’t be met by anyone else. At any time of day or night, corn can be bought. This makes it perfect for long weekend hunters who might not make it out in time to the feedlot.
Goals are modest, the company hopes to have up to 10 or 11 bins running on either side of the river by the end of 2021. The official hunting season starts in September, so time will tell.
