It looks like youngsters in the Quyon region will be able to participate in some sports this summer, as a local woman is putting together a free . . .

beginners T-ball league on Monday nights.

Cecile Dumont has been coaching ball at various levels since she was a teenager and wanted to give back to the next generation of local players.

“I thought, there was nothing for the little ones,” she said. “I used to coach T-ball until I moved up to the older kids, so I decided to try it out, see if I had interest, and the interest has been phenomenal.”

The first day Dumont made a post on social media to gauge the interest from the community, she said that at least 15 people contacted her to sign up.

She said they would be starting on Monday Aug. 3 at 6:30 p.m. on the ball diamond in Quyon and while she was expecting mainly children between three and six years of age, she said she wouldn’t turn anyone away. Children from neighbouring communities like Bristol or Norway Bay are welcome as well and the league is expected to run for about six weeks.

Dumont admitted that it would be difficult to enforce social distancing on the youngsters, but added that parents were welcome to bring their own bats and equipment to avoid the players sharing.

Those interested in playing can contact Dumont at 819 458 1953 or cec.dumont@hotmail.com.
