The event saw about 46 car registrations with approximately 180 to 190 participants in total, according to Joan Belsher, one of the organizers the Quyon Lionettes. The proceeds from both the registration fees and the 50/50 will be reinvested back into the community.

“We always give back to the community,” said Belsher in an interview before the event, “We support fire victims. We support the hospital, we support the schools. So we’re really anxious to have this event to raise some money again and be able to . . .

donate it back to the community.”

The car rally works like a big scavenger hunt, with teams driving around in order to find clues and answer questions. The theme of this year’s car rally was powHERful, and focused on strong women.

Some questions given to the participants included. Which female swimmer is our country’s most decorated summer Olympian? Or, this well-known female golfer is from Smith’s Falls, who is she?

Participants also had to identify various visual clues leading to other answers at the locations they were sent to, however a windstorm blew many of the clues away from designated positions.

The actual clues were organized by the winners of last year’s Quyon car rally, which included Heather Smith, Brittany McKenny, Tara MacDougall, Meghan Foran, Amanda Smith and Emma Madigan.

“We kind of had a list of people that we wanted to incorporate throughout the route. And so we just looked at things that were around that could give a hint to an answer, so there’s little things hidden along the route,” said Foran. “We tell them to think like a woman and really pay attention to detail.”

The event also had an appropriate sense of humour with participants dressing up, decorating their cars and the organizers putting jokes in along the way.

“We’ve included a lot of puns, a lot of jokes, some little, little snide comments about women being the superior gender in a nice way,” they joked.

The winning team of the car rally was the Spice Girls, which was made up of Shannon Johnston, Karen Cull, Brad Cull and Nicole Belaire, and they will go on to organize next year’s rally.

The Peck Family was the winner of the 50/50 draw, with the split being $477.50 for the winners and $477.50 for the Lionettes. The money that went to the Lionettes will be used towards purchase of medical equipment and helping the community, according to Belsher.

Belsher expressed that the Lionettes were thrilled to see many younger groups coming out and participating in the car rally.

The organizers and previous winners of the Quyon Car Rally Tara MacDougall, Heather Younge, Brittany McKenny and Meghan Foran. Their advice was that it was best to come second in order to avoid the privilege of organizers next year’s event.
