On Thursday evening, the United Church Hall in Shawville was . . .
packed for the annual spaghetti supper, put on by volunteers from the congregation.
Allan Dean was one of those toiling away in the kitchen, and in between loading pots with noodles, he explained that the dinner has been an annual tradition going back about five years.
“It used to be all the men that got together and put on the spaghetti supper,” he said with a laugh. “A couple years ago, we quickly learned that we can get a lot done a lot quicker if we involve the ladies too, so that’s great.”
He estimated that they would serve between 75 and 100 people over the course of the evening, and the proceeds would go towards general upkeep of the church.
The meal was cooked, served and cleaned up by a team of about a dozen members of the congregation.
