Our condolences and deepest sympathies go out to Bob and his family on the passing of his wife Laura Meehan (nee Donnelly) on Sept. 3. Friends were invited to . . .

share their memories of Laura with her family during a visitation at the Murphy Funeral Home. A Funeral mass was celebrated at Lourdes Church, Pembroke, Ont. on Sept. 7. Laura was in her 90th year.

Birthday greetings and best wishes go out to Angie Retty on Sept. 9, Fr. Beachey on Sep. 11 and to Freddi Hungate and Susan Peacock Hacking on Friday the 13. Also happy birthday to Rick Bradshaw’s dad Charles of Hamilton, Ont. He turned 90 on Sept. 5.

Last week, the quilters were invited to the Von Taube farm in Nichabau, Que. Dagmar’s sister-in-law Mary Louise Von Taube of Germany and formerly of Chichester, Que. was here visiting. The two put together a very tasty lunch that we all truly enjoyed along with a nice visit with our quilting friend Mary Louise. Everyone got to take home fresh tomatoes thanks to Daggie’s green thumb.

Tip of the hat to this Sheenboro lad! Douglas Tallon of Wellandport, Ont., formerly of Sheenboro, Que., took part in the threshing event that put St. Albert, Ont., in the World Guinness Book of Records. In 1997, he bought a threshing machine from Percy Gleason of Sheenboro. He attended and followed closely the different threshing events. In 2016, he and his son Willie went to Manitoba for the Guinness World Record Threshing Event with 136 operating threshing machines. Seeing this year’s event was so close to home, he and his whole family decided to take part. He was determined to see St. Albert top Manitoba and take the lead which they did. He entered three threshing machines including Percy’s which the Gleasons operated. The other two were operated by his family and his brother Pat Tallon. Three tractors accompanied the threshing machines. It was a lot of equipment to be transported. His sister Rosemary commented that her brother’s dream was fulfilled and the family are very proud of their farm boy who still owns the Tallon farm in Sheenboro.

Just a reminder: the Sheen Book Club will be hosted by Lorna Gleason this coming Thursday. The book to be discussed is The Secrets Between Us by Thrity Umrigar.
