SHEENBORO June 10, 2020
The folks in Sheenboro are preparing to celebrate Canada Day a little differently this year, since the ongoing pandemic has put a cork in any plans for a . . .
public gathering. Mayor Doris Ranger said that the municipality’s Canada Day committee came up with the idea to decorate the village instead.
“Usually at this time of year we’re very busy with organizing for Canada Day, we start to get our group together and we start to come up with ideas, you know,” Ranger said. “This year here we don’t have Canada Day, so we decided to pretty up Sheen.”
Ranger added that as a cottaging community, the summer in Sheenboro would be pretty quiet this year, and that local outfitters and businesses would likely feel the pinch.
“Our business is the cottagers,” she said. “We have some outfitters that are suffering because they couldn’t do the bear hunt. We rely on the cottagers.”
Despite the challenges facing her community, Ranger was upbeat.
“I think we’re going to get through it ok,” she said. “You’ve got to stay positive, eh.”
