Just down on Main Street in Shawville, you might recognize the barbershop that has stood there for around 40 years, but three years ago a new owner took over and has since added a lot more services to the shop.
What is now Griffin’s Salon is run by Jennifer Griffin, who has . . .
worked as a hairdresser most of her life and has always dreamed of opening up her own store.
Although Griffin is not from the Pontiac she has raised her kids and currently lives in the region. After two attempts to start her own hair salon/barbershop but highlighted now that she is older and has more experience she was able to do it, along with a little luck that the previous owner retired and the space became available.
“I’m a lot more mature now, and I take my business very seriously now,” Griffin said.
Griffin currently cuts both men and woman’s hair and kids. A fun feature at her salon is a race car on the hydraulic chair for when she gives kids hair cuts as well as a tv to keep them occupied.
“I just enjoy cutting hair, I feel like it’s in my blood. I just always loved being a hairdresser,” said Griffin.
For her, she hopes to continue to grow her clientele and invites people to come and get their hair cut. In her three years, she said consistency is key.
“You have to be consistent with your hours, clients know that you’re there so you just have to be consistent. And that took me a while to learn that. So that’s a big challenge is to just be patient and wait,” she said.
One of her biggest challenges is trying to cut men and women at the same time but she invites her male clients to try to book in the moring and for women to come to see her in the afternoon. She also takes walk-ins. Some of her other services include nails, facial waxing and hair colouring.
“I consider myself one of the cheapest hair salons in Shawville, with really good service,” she said.
She hopes to continue to serve both her male and female clients as she understands the store used to serve men for almost 40 years and does not want to lose that clientele she said.
The barber/salon is open Monday to Friday from 8 am to 5 pm, and on Saturday from 8 am to 1 pm.
