This past Saturday, Main street Shawville hosted a street market.
This market was organized by Jill McBane, owner of Boutique Shawville Shooz.
After the detrimental economic impact that Covid-19 had on small businesses, McBane saw a need for an event that promoted buying local.
“The pandemic hit small businesses as [it did to] everyone,” McBane said “I think we needed a boost.”
Previously, McBane had put on a Christmas market that she believed to be successful, so she decided to do a similar event during the summer. Local artisans, boutique owners, and farmers set up booths along Main street. Over 30 vendors signed up for the sale.
Local artist and farmer, Shauna McKenna said “I honestly didn’t think I would sell as much as I did,” as this was her first experience with this type of event.
The event had high attendance, with people filing down Main street, shopping and socializing. McBane showed her appreciation for this saying, “the community made it a success.”
