Abbatoir les Viandes du Pontiac has recently invested in some new machinery to automate their packaging process.
The $225,000 measurer has three separate attachments that can . . .
produce perfectly-weighed ground meat, patties and sausages.
Abbatoir les Viandes du Pontiac’s owner, Alain Lauzon, explained how the machinery will help them produce a more consistent and precise product. “Let’s say a farmer that wants 500 grams, was maybe getting 530, 525.”
Lauzon hopes that by automating jobs such as measurement, his employees can focus on other aspects of production. “All we have to do is put it in a bag and seal it.”
Lauzon explained that he had previously searched for new employees before shifting towards automation, but cites a lack of jobseekers as his reason for embracing the technology. “We’ve been looking for people for a long time,” he said. “Everybody’s asking themselves the same question, ‘Where’s all the people?’”
Four of Abbatoir les Viandes du Pontiac’s 16 employees will be in-charge of operating the new machinery.
