On March 31, proud friends and family gathered at the Dr. S.E. McDowell Elementary School gymnasium for the Shawville District Minor Hockey Association (SDMHA)’s year-end awards gala. Parents cheered and snapped pictures as their children were recognized by their coaches for various accomplishments throughout the 2018/19 season.

SDMHA President Diana Desabrais explained that this is the second year that the organization has hosted a gala with all age divisions and skill levels instead of each team having their own separate wrap-up party.

Before announcing award winners, Desabrais singled out the Midget A squad for their recent Divisional title win. The boys will be representing the Outaouais at Provincials this weekend in St. Gabriel de Brandon.

The awards kicked off with the ESSO Most Dedicated, Most Sportsmanlike and Most Improved, followed by the President’s Award.

Awards were as follows:

Novice B – Most sportsmanlike: Wyatt Hines; Most Dedicated: Brady Kilroy; Most Improved Defence: Bentley Lalonde; Most Improved Forward: Francis Maurier; President’s Award: Gavin Roy.

Novice C – Most sportsmanlike: Ben Richardson; Most Dedicated: Stefania George; Most Improved Defence: Sydney Newberry; Most Improved Forward: Nate Richardson; President’s Award: Iyla Smith.

Atom A – Most sportsmanlike: Will O’Malley; Most Dedicated: Garrett Rusenstrom; Most Improved Defence: Grayson Kilroy; President’s Award: Jaxon Armstrong.

Atom C – Most sportsmanlike: Yanni Newberry; Most Dedicated: Olivier Maurier; Most Improved Defence: Chloe Gilbert; President’s Award: Connor Findlay.

Peewee A – Most sportsmanlike: Brodee Campbell; Most Dedicated: Liam Queale; Most Improved Defence: Peyton Ireland; President’s Award: Lucas Barré.

Peewee C – Most sportsmanlike: Ayden Villeneuve; Most Dedicated: Lana Gibbons; Most Improved Defence: Connor McCormick; President’s Award: Ryder Lemay.

Bantam A – Most sportsmanlike: Charlie Olmstead; Most Dedicated: Alex Mayhew; Most Improved Defence: Brayden Duval; President’s Award: Bryan Tubman.

Bantam B – Most sportsmanlike: Patrick Barry; Most Dedicated: Walker Murphy; Most Improved Defence: Hunter Milford; President’s Award: Domenic Woermke.

Midget A – Most sportsmanlike: Willis Egan; Most Dedicated: Hunter Lukacs-Hitz; Most Improved Defence: Connor Gilpin; President’s Award: Evan Atkinson.

Midget B – Most sportsmanlike: Hunter Essiambre; Most Dedicated: Dylan Woermke; Most Improved Defence: Justin Mainville; President’s Award: Ryan Gilpin.

Hayes Memorial Trophy (Goaltender): Kaelan Ireland

Allen Memorial (Bantam): Bryan Tubman and Brayden McCormick

Shawn Campbell (Midget): Hunter Lukacs-Hitz (Midget A) and Peyton Coté (Midget B)

Fred Desabrais Moustache Award (third-year midget): Jaden Stewart (Midget A) and Michael McCann (Midget B)

Blaine Angus Junior Referee Award: Charles Romain

James Smith Referee Award: Dan Romain

Coach of the Year: Wes Tubman

Kaelan Ireland was awarded the Hayes Memorial Trophy for being the goaltender with the lowest goals against average in the Association, as well as the entire Outaouais. Pictured, he poses with the trophy, flanked by Coaches Ray Curley and Jeff Ireland.
