On Aug. 11, dozens of people turned up at Mickey Creek Golf Course for the third annual tournament in support of the Shawville District Recreation Association (SDRA).
Organizer Tina Atkinson said that this is the third year the SDRA has hosted the fundraiser, and 13 teams participated in total. Following the day at the course, everyone was invited back to the R.A. Hall to cool off and enjoy a spaghetti supper.
Atkinson explained that the money raised by the event goes towards upkeep for the ball field, hall and equipment, as well as the multitude of programs that the SDRA offers for local youth.
“We want to keep it as cost-efficient as possible,” she said.

Due to a rather slim amount of grant funding this year, Atkinson said that donations and support from the local community are invaluable to keep everything running.
The winning team this year was made up of Jerry Hannaberry, Mike Baker, Joey Hannaberry and Blake Howarth, who managed to eke out a win after a playoff hole against Jeff Hannaberry, Shane Powell, Kenny Thomas and Jeff Russell.
