DANFORD LAKE
Dec. 14, 2019
Bethany Hall in Danford Lake was packed to the rafters on Saturday morning as around 100 people from the region gathered . . .
for the town’s 10th annual Breakfast with Santa event.
According to Mayor Carl Mayer, the event was put on by the town’s RA. He explained that it was an opportunity to give back to the community by giving families a place to get together to enjoy a wholesome Christmas activity.
“We put it on for the kids every year,” he said. “Our big fundraiser is the Mud Run. So, then we do a breakfast with Santa for the kids. It’s a free breakfast for everybody. Donation only. If we make money, we make it.”
Throughout the event, attendees indulged in a wide assortment of greasy breakfast goodies, including pancakes, bacon and eggs while listening to jolly Christmas tunes.
Plus, with the big man in red making an appearance, kids formed a lineup for a meet and greet with Santa at the back of the hall where they posed for pictures and told him what they wanted under this year’s tree.
All the food was provided, prepared and served by members of the RA, Mayer said.
Seeing so many people coming from different parts of the region to enjoy the event, Mayer was delighted with the overall turnout, noting that it’s been growing every year since being established a decade ago.
“There’s 80 kids registered today,” he said. “There’s not 80 kids in Danford. There’s some from Kaz, I see some from Gracefield over here and Low. We give to all the kids. It’s not just for our own municipality.”
