Around 40 people gathered at Residence Meilleur in Chapeau on Saturday afternoon, to celebrate . . .
Christmas over holiday jingles, games and a delicious turkey dinner.
According to one of the event’s organizers Doris Ranger, the event served as an opportunity to celebrate the holidays at the manor after opening its doors earlier this year.
Throughout the event, attendees enjoyed themselves by either socializing with friends or swaying to sweet melodies played by a number of musical talents, including Quyon’s own Gail Gavan as well as the Sheen Fiddlers.
For Gavan, the opportunity to perform at Residence Meilleur – a place near and dear to her heart – brought back a lot of positive memories as well as strong emotional sentiments.
“My mom was from Desjardinsville and my dad was from Nichabau, so this is like home to me,” she said. “The Residence is [named] after my uncle Fred, my mom’s brother and it’s more than special to be here today because I just want to honour his spirit and honour the people that are from here.”
“If I can bring any joy to this place, the residence and people from this area, I feel blessed and happy to do it,” she added.
After a solid hour and a half of good entertainment, attendees treated themselves to a festive turkey supper featuring all sorts of delicious delicacies, like mashed potatoes, home-made stuffing and gravy.
The food was provided by members of the residence’s organizational committee, Ranger said.
Ranger explained that the event is very positive for the manor because it gives its residents a chance to get together and have a great time during the holiday season.
“It’s good socially for the residents, we just want to make sure that things run smoothly,” she said. “And of course, live entertainment is always good.”
After a successful party in its first edition, Ranger said the committee has already brought up the idea of bringing it back next year.
“We probably will, we’re already talking about putting on another one,” he said.
