The Félix-Gabriel Marchand Bridge could be accompanied by interactive lighting by as soon as July 1, 2021 thanks partly to a combined Ministry of Tourism and Tourisme Outoauais grant of $30,000.

PhareOuest, a non-profit organization that . . .

promotes culture in the Pontiac, applied for the funding for the project and was recently approved.

The project is in its preliminary stage, but it would include illumination and images around the bridge to enhance the experience for residents and tourists.

“People can come around the bridge and use their phone and they can change the light for one minute,” said Louis Harvey, PhareOuest organizer. “The website [accesses] the information about historical, heritage and documentation.”

People who visit the historic bridge in Mansfield et Pontefract would have ten light settings to choose from via an app on their cellphone.

Harvey said that the lights would remain on the bridge all year long and that the current project is set as a three-year contract.

He explained that the entire project will cost over $100,000 to setup and to promote, and the remainder of the funding will come from Hydro Quebec, the MRC and other private businesses.
