During the past year’s lockdowns, the residents of Quyon were not able to visit the library.
To combat this problem, the Quyon library in partnership with the TD summer club created an outdoor story walk so children and their parents can enjoy a book outdoors where social distancing is possible.
On Thursday, six-year-old Livy Malo Duchaine read The Things Lou Couldn’t Do with her mother Lea Malo-Poirier and her little brother Ollie Malo Duchaine.
According to Livy Malo Duchaine, the story is about a girl who wants to climb a tree but because she is unable to, she comes up with many excuses. Not trying to give too much of the story away, Malo Duchaine just said that she really enjoyed the story, and that it had a good ending.
Malo Duchaine thought an outdoor story in the park was a good idea for the summer, “except when the story gets stolen,” she said, referring to the empty spot in the grass where page seven used to be. She hopes that the library continues and features other stories in the future.
Malo Duchaine’s mom Lea was happy that the library took this initiative. She said that they come to the library a lot, but it was great to be able to take advantage of a book being outdoors.
Isabel Daoust brought her grandchildren Alexis and Andy Latour to read the story. She said that “it’s nice because it’s close to the park.” She also mentioned that it is a great solution for those worried about the pandemic, “It is great! Some people still don’t want to go inside.”
Daoust’s granddaughter, three-year-old Alexis, enjoyed the story so much that she exclaimed “let’s read it again” as soon as her grandmother finished reading the last page.
