New funding from the government of Quebec will go to much-needed roadwork in the Municipality of Pontiac.
In a July 28 press release, the Municipality of Pontiac announced that the government would be granting financial assistant totalling $2,287,925 to be split between two road projects.
The Mountain Road rehabilitation project would be receiving $1,042,528 in provincial support for phase 2 of the project, while the Tremblay road project would receive $1,245,397
Phase two of the Montagne project began on Monday and is expected to last 12 weeks.
Work on the Tremblay project started three weeks ago with Public Works doing preparatory work for the contractor.
Work on the Mountain road project started last summer with an initial grant from the MTQ in the amount of $1.042-million for the first phase; the second phase is expected to cost about $2.2 million in total. With the remainder covered by the municipalities borrowing bylaw.
Minor detours and road closures are expected, but the Municipality made the decision to close Mountain road completely to finish this phase of the project as quickly as possible.
In an interview with The Equity, Mayor Joanne Labaddie said, “the Mountain road is the most important inter-municipal road in our municipality.”
