Libraries and archives in Pontiac were next in line to reopen as Quebec pressed on with its deconfinement plan for COVID-19.
At the Shawville-Clarendon library, guests can either call for an order in advance or ring the doorbell at the library for service, according to librarian Heather Sly.
While they may not be able to pick the exact book they want, they could have a general idea, maybe of the author or genre and the librarian will then pick the book for them, entering the system in the meantime to check if they have taken it out before.
More conveniently, they could go online at reseaubiblioduquebec.ca to see what books are available.
Books also must be returned within three weeks.
Once someone has booked an order, the library places the order by the outside door for them to come and pick up.
“Everything that’s touched during the day needs to be washed down at the end of the day,” said Sly. “Even our railings and our door knobs.”
Once the library doors open to the public, people may only dwell in a taped-off area near the librarian’s desk when they enter the library. This opening will not happen, however, until the library has a plexiglass intact, according to Sly.
For returning books, the users may place them in the drop box like usual and let the staff take care of the disinfecting.
