Police confirmed on June 10 that the body that was recovered from the Coulonge River near Davidson on June 6 was that of Keith Laroche, 24, of Fort-Colonge. He had been missing since May 29.

A police statement said that two fishermen found the body in the Coulonge River near rue Thomas-Lefebvre in Mansfield-et-Pontefract the morning of June 6.

“Out of respect for the deceased and his family, no further information will be released at this time,” Sûreté du Québec spokesperson Sgt. Marc Tessier wrote in an email.

Laroche’s mother Lucie Rivet posted on social media thanking the community for their support.

“The extraordinary support from the community has deeply touched me, and I will never forget the love and solidarity you have shown,” she wrote. “Thank you to my family, my friends, my cherished colleagues, and to all [those whether] close to me or complete strangers who stood by my side throughout this time of waiting, hope, and now grief. Although the pain of losing my son is overwhelming, I find some comfort in knowing how deeply Keith was loved and in seeing the incredible support that surrounds us.”
