The Pontiac Equestrian Association, a group of riding enthusiasts in the area, held a poker ride on Saturday.
About 20 riders assembled on a farm just outside Gatineau Park Trail in Quyon. The point of the event was for riders to move along the trail and pick up five playing cards at different points. At the end of the event whoever had the best hand by poker rules won a prize.
Many of the riders were also . . .
dressed up in Halloween costumes and a prize was also given out to the best dressed.
The event fundraised about $200, which goes back into the association.
“We pay for repairing the equestrian trail that’s on NCC (National Capital Commission) land. And that takes a lot of gravel and sand and different things, pieces of wood to make bridges and things like that,” said Andrea Goffart, who is vice president of the association.
The Gatineau Park Trail is about 14 km, but it’s linear, so in practical terms it’s 28 km in total.
Members of the Pontiac Equestrian Association can ride the trail at any time.
“We also attracted quite a few new members, which is exciting. So now we’re at 117 members, which is great for the end of the year,” said Goffart.
She also added that throughout the year the group puts on a number of other events like community rides, training clinics, fun days and more.
