A play group for young children held every Friday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m in the basement of the New Hope Church in Shawville has started back up again after a covid hiatus.
There are about 10 kids and their parents gathered last Friday, the group is open to any family that want to drop by.
“So we’re kind of just the next generation trying to start it up again after covid,” said Selina Gervais, one of the . . .
parents starting the group back up again. “It’s important to have a place for the kids to gain social skills to be able to play with each other. Some of them have siblings, some of them don’t. So it’s having another kid to play with. And I think a lot of the parents right now are trying to find daycare. So this is a nice place where their kids can still be socialized.”
Gervais clarified that this isn’t a daycare, but a place where parents can talk to each other while their kids play.
The location had a variety of toys all owned by the church.
The group was originally founded by Patti Moffatt several years ago after she moved to Shawville and couldn’t find any daycare service. After that it was closed down two years after the beginning of covid.
The new organizers said that any parent with children below school age is welcome to drop in on Fridays that are not statutory holidays.
