Two grade 11 students from Pontiac High School (PHS) placed well at a recent welding competition hosted at the Western Quebec Career Centre in Gatineau on April 5.
Representatives from the Ottawa Chapter of the Canadian Welding Bureau Association were at PHS on April 9 to present Stephanie Dubeau and Ryan Brownlee with brand new gear for their respective first and third place finishes in the student horizontal fillet weld competition. Both received brand new auto darkening helmets and Dubeau also got a duffle bag full of new equipment.
The competition was part of Try the Technology Day, an event to bring together industry professionals as well as high school and post-secondary welding students.
Ottawa Chapter Education Chair Andrew Bartlett estimated that there were roughly 15 students in the high school division, but PHS was the only one representing Quebec. He estimated that Dubeau’s loot bag contained more than $400 of equipment donated by the CWB’s charitable foundation.
