Several daycares in the Pontiac will be benefiting from additional funding from the provincial government this year.
Local MNA André Fortin announced on Friday at the 1-2-3 Picabou in Campbell’s Bay that $66,793 would be invested in repairs to three local childcare centres. Several administrators from those centres were in attendance.

The funding is part of an overall package of nearly $2.5 million across the province, announced by the Minister of Education, Recreation and Sports, Sébastien Proulx, on Sept. 27.
1-2-3 Picabou will receive $27,925 to repair the roof as well as the soffit and facia. L’Univers des Bambinos in Shawville will receive $33,915 to replace their railings and balconies while their facility in Luskville will get $4,953 to replace their water softener and septic field equipment.
“Children in the Pontiac are just as deserving as children elsewhere,” Fortin said. “Children and employees spend a good amount of time here and we want to keep our [childcare centres] in excellent condition.”
“We’re thrilled to be an important part of what you do here,” he concluded, addressing the stakeholders in the room.
Jean-Pierre Landry, who serves as treasurer on the board of directors for 1-2-3 Picabou, explained that the money will be put to good use.
“We had part of the roof done ten years ago,” he explained. “This time, we’re getting the whole roof done as well as the soffit and facia.”
He added that childcare centres are more than just places to educate and socialize children, but also vital infrastructure for bringing young people to the region.
“It’s attractive for young families looking to establish themselves in the Pontiac,” he said.
