CAMPBELL’S BAY

Sept. 23, 2019

Two weeks ago the new and improved thrift shop at Bouffe Pontiac’s headquarters in . . .

Campbell’s Bay was unveiled, with the students from Carrefour jeunesse -emploi du Pontiac who completed the work in attendance.

The snazzy new premises was put together as a project for the students at Carrefour over the course of about five months, explained youth specialized services councillor Émilie Demers, who oversaw the work. She said that previously the shop had been in need of a little elbow grease, and the students took part in every aspect of the restoration.

“It’s a six month program to help kids develop the skills they need to enter the labour market,” she said. “Our kids really took on the entire project, they did the budget, they did the design, took the measures, painted the walls and organized the clothing.”

The labels on the walls were sharp looking wood cut etchings created through collaboration with the Fablab du Jardin. They also had a wardrobe full of formal clothing for students from the program to borrow when they have job interviews.

“A lot of our kids at the Carrefour don’t have interview clothing,” Demmers said. “Whenever they need it they can come by and pick it out.”

Each of the students had a chance talk briefly about their favourite experiences from the project, before the group settled in for some refreshments.
