Satuday marked the grand opening of the new Dépaneur Général de Luskville with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
New owners Jeff Chugg and Laurie Lacroix bought the commercial building in 2016 and have spent the last five years renovating it. Chugg has been involved in many businesses in the Pontiac such as INSO-TEC, Chugg Electric, Chugg Construction and CMD Cable.
“We’ve been in business in the Pontiac for 50 years, this is our fifth adventure,” said Chugg. Chugg knew that he wanted the building to be home for a new business venture, however, was not sure what exactly it would be. In 2019, Chugg and Lacroix finally landed on a business that had been present in the area for years; The Dépaneur Général de Luskville.
“They were ready to retire and Jeff had talked to them about it, so he started the sale process with them, and we took over officially on July 31,” explained Lacroix.
The event was organized by Lacroix’s daughter, Jessica Forgues, who has been in community development since the age of 15.
“It’s really exciting,” she said, “it’s always great to see businesses thriving. The building next door is opening, so this whole strip is filled with businesses, which is really good for the community.”
The event allowed guests to enter in several different raffles with the opportunity to win gift baskets, a paddle board or a charcoal barbecue. The event had hotdogs, mini-donuts and a DJ on-site. Forgues expected that several hundred people would be attending the event over the course of the day.
Mayor Joanne Labadie spoke on the importance of new businesses entering the Pontiac, especially in a time where many people are working from home. The owners were joined by Labadie, ward 4 counsellor Scott MacDonald, and Forgues in the inaugural ribbon-cutting, officially welcoming guests to the business.
