At the MRC Pontiac’s council of mayors meeting on Feb. 19, Cyndy Phillips was named the new economic development director for the region.
Having previously served in . . .
the department as an economic development officer, Phillips replaced the previous director Danielle Newman, who departed from the MRC in January after announcing her resignation in December 2019. Pontiac Warden Jane Toller said after the meeting that they had received numerous applications for the position, which they narrowed down to a shortlist of three people to interview.
Phillips has extensive experience in economic development and tourism, having worked for several private and public sector organizations, such as vice-president of the Ottawa Valley Tourist Association and the Upper Ottawa Valley Chamber of Commerce. She has lived in the Pontiac region for the past 20 years, and is passionate about the diverse assets of the area.
“‘’I am honoured to have the privilege of shaping economic development here in the Pontiac,” she said in a press release. “We are fortunate to live and work in such a beautiful region and I look forward to developing the potential growth of our economy. We have tremendous opportunities and benefits here that we need to take advantage of, such as our cross-border position, our competitive land rates, and our low operating costs.”
