SHAWVILLE Feb. 19, 2020
As of Monday, there’s a new spot to eat in Shawville, as Rhonda’s Chicken opened in the Valu-mart plaza.
Owner Rhonda Johnson said that she had previously worked at the location many . . .
years ago when it was under different management.
“I worked here whenever my kids were little, about 20 something years ago,” she said.
Johnson said that the idea of opening her own place had been on her mind for about the past year or so, and when the space became available she jumped at the opportunity.
“I just love cooking so much and the opportunity was there to buy it,” she said, noting that she had worked across the parking lot at Valu-mart for the past 17 years.
The menu is a mix of southern-fried classics like wings or popcorn chicken as well and some gluten free options. Johnson said that the opening day was busy, but she had plenty of hands in the kitchen to make sure it went off without a hitch.
“I think because I had so much help it didn’t feel overwhelming … today I thought it went well, it was awesome,” she said. “[There was] a lot of support.”
The restaurant’s hours are 11 a.m. – 8 p.. Monday to Thursday and 11 a.m. – 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
