The MRC Pontiac is receiving  funding through a new province-wide green initiative.

In an attempt to combat the effects of climate change on Canadian communities, the new Municipal Green Initiative Fund is investing in low-emission solutions. The plan hopes to create jobs and invest in “Canada’s low-emission energy future”.

The plan is being carried out by Seamus O’Regan Jr., Minister of Natural resources and Joanne Vanderheyden, President of the federation of Canadian Municipalities. They hope to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and  improve the quality of water and land in Quebec. The total investment will be $442,150.

Through the project, the MRC Pontiac will receive $12,100 to fund research on “the management of organic materials and identify the specific needs of each municipality.” The goal of the study will be to find solutions in order to divert organic materials from reaching landfills.
