In collaboration with the Maison des Jeunes, the MRC Pontiac has begun the process of creating online interactive maps for people of the Pontiac to get outdoors and enjoy different attractions.
MRC economic development officer Sabrina Ayres, alongside Maison des Jeunes coordinator Desiree Tremblay-Giroux, has recently been . . .
contacting municipalities and local RA groups to gather information so that an interactive map of all of the MRC’s outdoor rinks would be made available on the MRC’s new microsite, DestinationPontiac.ca. The outdoor skating rinks and arenas map is the first map online.
“We are hoping to showcase the activities that can be appreciated and enjoyed throughout the MRC Pontiac by whoever it may be,” Ayres said in an email to The Equity. “Our goal is to make more information available regarding what we have to offer, as well as encourage the population to get out, be active and most of all, have fun.”
Ayres said that it’s possible that before the winter is over, a separate interactive map could be put online of where to do different snow-based activities, such as snowshoeing.
Come springtime, she said that maps would be made with all municipal parks and sports fields. After that, she said the goal will be creating a map for public beaches in time for the summer.
“This is a living project, that will continue to grow over time as the MRC grows and offers more, so will the maps project and the information we can provide to the public,” Ayres wrote.
