STEPHEN RICCIO
MRC PONTIAC March 31, 2021
The MRC Pontiac recently acquired the services of business consultant David Cyr, an experienced entrepreneur in the province, in an effort to bolster its economic development.
The position’s funding comes out of the Regional Relief and Recovery Fund (FARR) program, with Cyr set to . . .
stay on as business support and attraction consultant at least until December 2021.
Cyr — having spent nearly 30 years in the business world founding and managing businesses in the hotel industry, retail, event management and property management, to name a few — said he is excited for the opportunity to help boost the county’s business signal. Along with his business experience, he has been working within the municipal development sphere for over two years.
“I hope to pave the way for entrepreneurs who have not yet realized all the business opportunities in our region,” Cyr wrote in an email to The Equity.
“In the first days of my mandate, I had the impression that I was facing a great challenge,” he added, though he noted the advantages that the Pontiac has that make it exciting for him as well.
Among those avantages, Cyr said the proximity to major centers in both provinces makes for opportunities in establishing small and medium-sized businesses.
Cyr said he already looks at the Pontiac and sees that many businesses are in a position where the establishing of a “structure to facilitate the transition between sellers and buyers” will be crucial.
Through serving as consultant and an advisor to the MRC and its businesses, he said he hopes to use his time to create a toolbox for MRC employees to use beyond his contract.
“When I leave at the end of my mandate, in addition to having helped various businesses, I hope that I will have equipped my current and future colleagues with the tools they need to succeed,” he said.
Cyndy Phillips, the MRC’s director of economic development, will be working closely with Cyr, and she said in a March 19 press release that she is pleased with his appointment.
“Attracting business is a continuous effort, which requires experience and expertise,” Phillips said. “I am confident that Mr. Cyr will bring his many years of experience in the public and private sectors to the task of fostering business development in the Pontiac.”
Aside from his career pursuits, Cyr said he likes to stay involved in his community wherever that may be.
“Whether it be as VP of the Mont-Tremblant Chamber of Commerce, Le Richelieu International and various charities,” he added.
