Motorcyclist dies after head-on crash

A female motorcyclist died on Saturday afternoon after colliding head-on with another vehicle in Thorne.

Emergency crews were called to the scene on Rte. 303 just outside Ladysmith at around 2:30 in the afternoon.

Stephanie Gagnon, a 45-year-old woman from Gatineau, was alone on her motorcycle with a group of four riders headed northbound, when she was struck by a vehicle trying to pass in the opposite direction.

According to Sûreté du Québec spokesperson Claude Doiron, Gagnon was transported to hospital where she was pronounced dead at 4:30 p.m. The driver of the other vehicle was not reported injured.

The highway was closed temporarily while police investigated.
