Mansfield-et-Pontefract held its annual celebration on Canada Day weekend, Mansfield-en-fête. The event featured live music, fireworks, bouncy castles, face painting and a baseball tournament.

The purpose of the celebrations is to fundraise for firefighters in Mansfield and across . . .

the Pontiac, according to Louise Bastien, an organizer of Mansfield-en-fête.

Music acts included Rosalie and Conrad Denault, Michaela Cahill and René Bertrand, Back Track, DJ Martin Leguerrier and culminated in a tribute performance to the bands Journey and Foreigner.

The baseball tournament was held throughout the week and featured 11 teams from across the Pontiac and beyond. The tournament was divided into two divisions and took all weekend to complete.

The tournament was organized by Terry Charette, who has organized ball tournaments in the past for various charitable endeavors. Charette also umpired for many of the games and played for one of the teams, the Mustangs.

Charette said that while organizing the tournament can be a hassle, his love of the game drives him to do it.

Division A of the tournament was won by the team Les Bonnes Personnes and division B was won by the Mustangs.

Overall Mansfield-en-fête saw a large number of people come out.

“I think that people were anxious for it because the turnout is very great,” said Louise, who thanked the community. “We just want people to enjoy themselves and support our fire department because on the bottom line, they’re there to save our lives.”
