CALEB NICKERSON
SHAWVILLE April 5-6, 2019
On April 5 and 6, the Pontiac Community Players put on quite the performance in support of the local high school auditorium project.
The evenings featured both dinner and a show, with banquet tables filled with guests running down the main hallway at Pontiac High School (PHS). After guests filled up on lasagne, they filed into the auditorium for a slapstick romp entitled “Man of the House.”
A burglar (Greg Graham) infiltrates the palatial home of Olive and Harry Mason (Meagan Pelletier and Gord Graham) only to find himself inextricably tangled in their personal lives. While attempting to make off with jewellery and the silverware, the burglar becomes involved with Mr. Mason’s high school flame, dupes the local cops and even manages to convince his estranged niece’s fiancé to stand up to his battle-axe of a mother-in-law.
The plot takes several twists along the way, and the increasingly ridiculous scenarios had the audience in stitches.
PHS Principal Debra Stephens directed the production and said that the group had started work on the play after Christmas.
“I wanted to do a fundraiser for the auditorium so I thought this would be fun to do,” she said, noting that the group put on a similar fundraiser last year as well.
The current objective of the school’s auditorium project is to purchase new curtains, after raising enough funds to replace the seats and lighting system.
