A section of the PPJ trail outside Campbell’s Bay is closed due to a large washout.
At the council of mayors meeting on May 16, it was resolved to hire a third party to assess and repair the damage.
“The problem is, there was a culvert that needed to be replaced,” explained Pontiac Warden Jane Toller. “The work was done in November and now with the thaw, everything’s softened up and it’s actually collapsed.”
The damaged section of trail runs alongside Chemin Morehead in Litchfield and is currently cordoned off.
Toller explained that they decided to outsource the job to ensure that the problem doesn’t get repeated. She said she was thankful that no one had been hurt
“We’re going to have an engineer come look at it, assess the problem and get it fixed,” she continued. “Then we’ll perhaps address why this happened, but we decided as a council that it was important to fix the problem and guarantee safety.”
She added that they would also be working to clear away any debris from the washout that was deposited in the field adjacent to the trail, noting that it had caused some minor damage.
