Over 100 seniors from the area gathered at Harrington Hall in Chapeau last week, to celebrate the . . .

holidays with the community during the Young at Heart Club’s (YHC) annual Christmas dinner,

According to the organization’s President Jerome Sallafranque, the event has been taking place in the town for over 30 years, noting he attended the very first one back in 1972.

“Since the beginning, I’ve been here” he said.

He explained that it’s an opportunity for local citizens to get together to enjoy a delicious meal with friends and family, along with all sorts of Christmas tunes and festive decorations.

“For the community at large, it’s a time to get together and socialize with the seniors of the area,” he said.

Along with a roast beef dinner catered by Cheryl Smith, attendees socialized at their respective tables, as local musician Larry Turner entertained them with a set of holidays jingles.

In addition to a 50-50 draw, the YHC raffled off a wide array of gifts that several lucky attendees got to go home with.

Judging by the large crowd on hand, Sallafranque estimated that the dinner was one of the YHC’s most successful ones so far.

“We’ve had a larger turnout this year than last year,” he said. “The numbers have kept going up the last number of years.”
