As the election draws close, Quebec’s political parties are campaigning across the province.

Premier Francois Legault of the CAQ was scheduled to march in the Montreal Gay Pride Parade before it was cancelled abruptly due to the lack of security.

Regarding the cancelled march, Legault tweeted: (translated) “I was to be present at the Pride Parade in Montreal today. Even if the event is cancelled, it is important that sexual and gender . . .

minorities feel comfortable in our society,” and “Quebec is one of the most open societies in the world. But there is still work to be done to combat discrimination. Let’s keep working on it.”

Beyond that Legault has been traveling across Quebec announcing different candidates in the different regions of the province.

Legault is scheduled to be in Gatineau on Friday at 2 p.m. to announce the candidate for Hull and Pontiac, which THE EQUITY wil.l be there to cover.

Quebec Liberal Party leader Dominique Anglade said she is looking forward to debating with Legault in an interview with QUB radio and believes her party still has a chance to challenge the CAQ.

Two debates between leaders of Quebec’s parties are scheduled in September, one on September 4 and the other on September 20. Both will be in French. The English language media consortium in Montreal attempted to organize an English debate earlier this year but cancelled it after Legault and Parti Québécois leader Paul St-Pierre Plamondon refused to participate.

Québec solidaire spokesperson Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois attended Agricultural Expo in Saint-Hyacinthe on July 30. During the event Nadeau-Dubois stated that Québec solidaire would focus on sustainable agriculture, preventing agricultural land from being broken up and localizing food supply.

“Feeding Quebec with healthy, accessible and local food, while respecting the environment: that is the vision Québec solidaire in agriculture,” said Nadeau-Dubois.

The Canadian Party of Quebec announced that they will pursue a strategy that focuses on Montreal, the Eastern Townships and Western Quebec, which breaks with their previous goals of running a province wide campaign. They have yet to announce a candidate for the Pontiac.

Next week we hope to feature a profile of the CAQ candidate for the Pontiac.
