Despite occasional downpours, spectators clapped and danced along with Maxime de Wilde’s whimsical and nostalgic songs at a small intimate gathering taking place at Le Patro on Sunday.

It was event proposed by the MRC Pontiac to celebrate Quebec’s Cultural Week, according to Le Patro Director, Suzanne Dazé.

Earlier in the day a fishing course was also hosted in collaboration with the Quebec Ministry of Forests, Wildlife and Parks, where children received a fishing license that would be valid until they turned 18 years of age. They also did some fishing for a while followed by a hot dog lunch, said Dazé.

In one of his tunes, de Wilde tells the story about how he came to write a song about automobile digestion, he goes on to explain that he was awakened at 3 a.m. by a truck making monstrous noises that would wake up an army.

The young musician originally from Montreal, relocated to Fort Coulonge in 2015 and says there is no shortage of inspiration for the original songs he writes.

As it began to rain once again he crooned a fitting song that translates as “Bad Weather,” a song from his soon to be released EP titled “Mauvais Temps.”

Louis Harvey of Mansfield said he was enjoying the show. Having attended a previous spectacle he said he was a fan of the musician’s original style. “There’s a lot of cutting edge emotion and anecdotes in his lyrics,” he added.
