The Shawville R.A. was awash with pink decorations last Tuesday night as local women in business gathered for an evening of networking and fun.
Upwards of 60 women attended the event – entitled “Let’s Fla-Mingle” – which was organized by Fiona Campbell and Carolann Barton of AccountAbility Business Solutions in Shawville. The pair said the purpose of the evening was to increase the ladies’ awareness of the businesses and services available in the local community.

“If we can meet our neighbours in business, we can help and promote one another,” Barton explained. “We were trying to do more networking events and Fiona said, ‘Well let’s just have a party and invite everybody.’”
“It’s important for our businesses to work together and support each other and we can’t do that if we don’t know what [we] have to offer,” Campbell said.
The event was catered and co-hosted by Joanne Dumochel of Joanne’s Valu-Mart with the decorations provided by Lisa and Jean Coles of Exquisite Décor in Shawville.
Attendees could also munch on popcorn and cotton candy, courtesy of Melanie Pieske of Jolie Folie, or sample Campbell’s signature drink, the “Ms. Flamingo.” Everyone received buckets of summer goodies donated by several local stores.
The ladies were encouraged to seek out attendees that they didn’t know, aided by nametags that denoted their business affiliations as well.
Campbell and Barton were extremely pleased with the turnout and said they have more planned for the future.
“Maybe we’ll invite the boys next time,” Barton said with a laugh.
