An “astronomical” feat occurred at a cribbage game on July 7. In a one-on-one match, Otter Lake resident Cheryl Mousseau managed to . . .
score a 29-point hand, the highest possible score in the game.
“We’ve been playing crib all our lives and never seen one of these,” said Mousseau’s husband, Bruce Bowen.
Mousseau was dealt the Jack of spades and three fives. She cut the five of spades for the achievement. In the process, Bowen got skunked – Mousseau won with a margin of 31 points or more – but said he wasn’t broken up about it.
“At least I can say I dealt it,” he said.
Years ago, THE EQUITY reported a similar story of a Shawville resident beating the odds and reaching the incredible hand. That player was Bob Bowen, Bruce’s uncle.
“Maybe it runs in the family,” Bruce joked. “With luck like that, maybe Cheryl should go buy a lottery ticket.”
