The CÉGEP Heritage Pontiac campus is expecting to be open this fall, with the school offering . . .

the cattle production management and early childhood care and education courses.

Manager Greg Graham said that the Campbell’s Bay campus is moving forward with accepting applications for these two courses, and he’s confident in their ability to improvise given how the previous semester ended following a brief disruption due to COVID-19.

“We’ve been handling it quite well,” Graham said. “When it all came down we closed the school down completely for three weeks back in March. A few weeks later we came back with online courses, so it was an amazing quick turnaround time by the teachers and the students.”

While the remainder of the interrupted semester had to be completed online, Graham expects that the fall semester will be a blend of learning online as well as in-person.

“We’re a small program and we’ve got room to spread out so I think we’ll be able to come up with some sort of solution,” Graham said. “But nothing is in stone just yet.”

The early childhood care and education course is slated to start on Sept. 1, while the cattle production management course would start in October.

Graham said that the running of these courses will depend on the demand from the community, so he is hopeful that there will be enough applicants.

Applications for both programs are open now at www.cegep-heritage.qc.ca. Although the website says they close at the end of June, those who are interested should apply by the end of July at the latest, as Graham acknowledged that there is a need to extend that window given the uncertainty of the past several months.
