Campbell’s Bay residents gathered near Mural Park last Wednesday for a musical performance from Cathy Scullion.
Scullion played both guitar and fiddle, performing a number of her own songs. One of which was “Dance with an angel,” which she explained she wrote for her mother after she passed away last year. Some other songs were inspired by her experience growing up on a farm in Gatineau or her family’s history.
Scullion explained that with some help from the mayor, she arranged the live performance in the town, similar to others she had performed at prior to the pandemic. She said she did this in the hopes of getting people out into the community to enjoy live music and perhaps even dance.
“This was an idea I came up with because the summer festival couldn’t go ahead,” said Scullion. “[It’s] just to give them a lift and get them out into the community.”
Debbie Frost, a spectator explained that she was happy to be back at a live event with others from the community, especially those she hadn’t seen during the pandemic.
“A lot of the older people never came out,” said Frost. “They’re just easing themselves back. It’s nice to see them.”
Scullion plans to make the performances a regular event on Wednesday evenings and expects to perform alongside others.
Frost said she hopes to see the performances continue and grow, perhaps even adding snacks and an open mic, allowing others from the community to perform.
“I think now that we’ve had it, we’ll get more people next time,” she said.
