Kicking off the Seventh annual Golf Tournament 72 golfers geared up at Mickey Creek Golf Course in Vinton on Saturday to compete.

The event, organized by the Bryson Revitalization Committee, served as a fundraiser and for the golfing community to compete in some good old fun for the best ball tournament played over nine holes. The event featured . . .

18 teams of four golfers of all skills, according to Lucienne La Salle the tournament’s main organizer.

Busy to get on the field La Salle wanted everyone to have a good time.

“Good luck everybody. Hope everybody has fun. Today is a beautiful day, so we’re good to go,” said La Salle.

It was a close competition out on the course with the first-place team winning with 30 points scoring -6. That team included Jerry Lafleur, Richard Dumoulin, Jacob Jolicoeur and Ben Ladouceur.

Closest to the pin prizes went to Michel Dubeau for the men and to Francoise Corriveau for the women, while the longest drives belonged to Yves Roy and Stacy Lafleur.

The committee also held a 50/50 Draw which Brent Smith won. There was also a Raffle for a honey basket that Sandra Demers won and a Texas mickey that was won by Charles Kucharik.

After, the games and prizes participants enjoyed a meal inside the clubhouse. They were served breaded chicken breast on a bun, fries, a cob of corn, coleslaw and cake for dessert.

The total money raised has not been calculated thus far, but the Bryson Revitalization Committee said it intends on using some of this year’s proceeds to purchase metal flags which will be installed on posts on rue Principale in Bryson.

Some of the projects that have been done over the past years due to the many sponsors include the two Bryson signs along Highway 148, a miniature lighthouse and a bench in memory of Ruth Racine in the Leo Piche Park along the Riverfront.

Friends Maggie Soucie, Dan Soroka and Lou lou Gravelle were excited to compete in this tournament.
