GELAM hosts fun competition

On Sunday, eight riders from GELAM Riding Stables in Clarendon gathered for a day of friendly competition, with plenty of family members cheering from the sidelines.

The morning opened up with . . .

jumping competitions before transitioning into western games.

GELAM’s owner Ginger Finan said that she usually holds a competition later in the year, but decided to keep things small and keep the competition between her students.

“It’s normally early October, but I decided that since there was no fair we could have it,” she said. “Today there’s eight [riders]. The reason is I only had eight horses. I definitely could have had more kids interested, but I only had eight horses at this point in the year to lend. It wasn’t open to the public just so everyone could have a nice relaxing competition.”

The fence of the ring was lined with parents and grandparents cheering on the young riders and even the competitors encouraged one another.

“That’s the best part, I love hearing the cheers from one child to another,” Finan said.
