GELAM hosts fun competition

On Sunday, eight riders from GELAM Riding Stables in Clarendon gathered for a day of friendly competition, with plenty of family members cheering from the sidelines.

The morning opened up with . . .

jumping competitions before transitioning into western games.

GELAM’s owner Ginger Finan said that she usually holds a competition later in the year, but decided to keep things small and keep the competition between her students.

“It’s normally early October, but I decided that since there was no fair we could have it,” she said. “Today there’s eight [riders]. The reason is I only had eight horses. I definitely could have had more kids interested, but I only had eight horses at this point in the year to lend. It wasn’t open to the public just so everyone could have a nice relaxing competition.”

The fence of the ring was lined with parents and grandparents cheering on the young riders and even the competitors encouraged one another.

“That’s the best part, I love hearing the cheers from one child to another,” Finan said.

Relay Race – 1st Reese Rusentrom and Addi Finan, 2nd Addie Derouin and Addi Finan, 3rd Nora MacKechnie and Kaleigh Milford, 4th Reese Rusentrom and Daphnee Drolet, 5th Matthew Lepine and Grace MacKechnie

Dash for Cash – Addi Finan won more than $240, coming in with a blazing fast time of 9.68 seconds.
