The Fish Findlay Classic, an annual 3 on 3 hockey tournament held at the Shawville Arena returned after a two year covid hiatus this weekend. The tournament ran from Friday to Sunday, with all the money raised going towards Shawville Minor Hockey.
Sixteen teams from the Pontiac and beyond competed . . .
in the two divisions, with 6 in the A division and 10 in the B division.
A live band, The Riley New Band, played in the Lions Hall located in the upstairs of the arena Saturday night, which was well attended, according to Darcy Findlay, the event organizer.
Teams came from all over, from northern Quebec, Pembroke, Ottawa and the Pontiac.
“That’s the thing about it, you meet people, it’s a good time and there is never any trouble, which is the best part for me as an organizer,’’ said Findlay.
Findlay thanked all the volunteers, spectators and sponsors for helping make the event happen.
“We are trying to reduce their fees, we’re trying to provide training aides, whatever they need to spend money on to make the kids better and help out the families,” said Findlay, emphasizing that the more people who turn out, the more they can give to minor hockey.
