A fire tore through a barn on Steward Road in Clarendon at around noon on New Year’s Day, destroying it entirely. According to Shawville Clarendon Fire Chief Lee Laframboise, they got the call at around 11:53 a.m. and responded with 19 firefighters and four trucks, with another truck and five crew dispatched from the Campbell’s Bay Litchfield department.

When they arrived at 86 Steward Rd., the building was fully involved and another nearby outbuilding was beginning to catch. Laframboise said that the building was being used as a mechanical workshop and it took them around four hours to extinguish the flames.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the blaze was still to be determined at the time of print.
