The Municipality of Pontiac is offering a program for financial assistance for families living in rural areas looking to do major repairs to their properties. The program, called RénoRégion, was created by . . .

the Société d’habitation du Québec (SHQ) and is available for low- and modest-income families looking to do work worth at least $2,000 on their properties. The program will provide compensation for up to 95 per cent of the renovation costs, up to $12,000.

Eligibility depends on household income, region and size of the home. Projects that can be covered include external walls, openings, protrusions, roof, structure, electricity, plumbing, heating and thermal insulation, and the application must include at least one of them.

Any household that has unfinished construction work started less than five years ago, is in a region prone to flooding or acts as a hotel is not eligible for the financial aid, among other limitations.

The program is on a first come, first served basis and applicants are asked to apply before Dec. 31. The program ends on March 31.
